The Gemstone you received might look different from the pictures you've seen on our website, because every stone is unique, and every piece has different chemistry.

Many stones sold at our shop are natural gemstones, and we cannot guarantee that they will look exactly the same.

---------------------------------

14.WHAT IS THE MEANING OF STERLING SILVER OR 925 SILVER?

Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% by weight of silver and 7.5% by weight of other metals, usually copper. The sterling silver standard has a minimum millesimal fineness of 925.

925. or .925 indicates the highest grade of sterling silver product available.

---------------------------------

15. WHY IS MY JEWELRY TURNING BLACK?

(a) due to Corrosion

Pure gold will not corrode but is too soft for many kinds of jewelry and therefore is alloyed with proportions of base metals (usually silver or copper), to make it harder. The chemical compounds of silver and copper which are formed turn very dark even when slightly corroded. This corrosion occurs under moist or wet conditions.

Our skin is provided with thousands of perspiration glands. Chemically the perspiration is mostly fat and fatty acids. These essentially mild chemicals are enough to cause metal corrosion especially when aided by warmth and free access of air.

(b) due to Tarnishing

Sterling silver is copper-silver alloy and is somewhat softer than most gold alloys. Therefore, it is more likely to be abraded to black dust by relative movement between the jewelry and the skin or clothing.

Sterling silver jewelry has a pronounced tendency to tarnish. The tarnish is always due to the contact with sulphur compounds. The main cause of tarnishing of silver is a trace of hydrogen sulfide gas in the air. This gas is particularly present in smoke from burnt raw fuel, such as coal or oil; in some strong smelling foodstuffs, such as eggs and onions; in some fish or shellfish; and in polluted air.

The tarnish may turn the jewelry black and may also be rubbed off on the skin or clothing.

---------------------------------

16. WHY MY SILVER JEWELRY IS TURNING THE SKIN GREEN?

People with especially moist skin may find that the sterling silver stains their skin green. This is due to the copper component of the silver alloy. When this occurs you should polish your jewelry frequently and use an absorbent powder on those moist skin areas which come into contact with your jewelry.

---------------------------------

17. HOW TO PREVENT MY JEWELRY FROM TURNING THE SKIN GREEN OR BLACK?

(a) clean your jewelry after every wear.

(b) store your jewelry in an air tight box (to prevent rusting).

(c) coat your jewelry with a transparent nail polish to create jewelry-skin barrier.

---------------------------------

18. HOW LONG DOES GOLD PLATING LAST?

Gold luster will last up to 1 year.

The gold plating can be renewed in almost every jewelry store.

---------------------------------

19. WHAT IS STERLING SILVER PATINA?

Patina (patinas) is in a sense like rust on steel or corrosion on metals. It is also found on stone and even on wood.

Patina on metals like Sterling Silver is essentially a thin oxide layer, often caused by various exposure to basic atmospheric elements like sunlight and moisture - other 'agents' can increase the likelihood of patinas developing or increase the rate of development. Patina on Sterling Silver can also be classed as Tarnish.

In the jewelry world, silver jewelry with a patina can be considered special and elite.

You can polish over the silver to develop a warm tone for your jewelry.

---------------------------------

20. WHERE TO STORE MY JEWELRY?

To prevent jewelry tarnishing and corrosion its best to store it in air-tight box or silk bag.

---------------------------------

21. HOW TO CLEAN JEWELRY AT HOME?

(a) Alka-Seltzer

Drop your dull-looking jewelry in a glass of fizzing Alka-Seltzer for a couple of minutes. It will sparkle and shine when you pull it out.

(b) Aluminum foil

Simply line a small bowl with aluminum foil. Fill the bowl with hot water and mix in one tablespoon of bleach-free powdered laundry detergent (not liquid), like Tide. Put the jewelry in the solution and let it soak for one minute. Rinse well and air-dry. This procedure makes use of the chemical process known as ion exchange, which can also be used to clean silverware.

(c) Ammonia

Brighten up your gold and silver trinkets by soaking them for ten minutes in a solution of 1/2 cup clear ammonia mixed in 1 cup warm water. Gently wipe clean with a soft cloth and let dry. Note: Do not do this with jewelry containing pearls, because it could dull or damage their delicate surface.

(d) Baking Soda

To remove built-up tarnish from your silver, make a thick paste with 1/4 cup baking soda and 2 tablespoons water. Apply with a damp sponge and gently rub, rinse, and buff dry. To polish gold jewelry, cover with a light coating of baking soda, pour a bit of vinegar over it, and rinse clean. Note:

Do not use this technique with jewelry containing pearls or gemstones, as it could damage their finish or loosen any glue.

(e) Beer

Get the shine back in your solid gold (i.e., minus any gemstones) rings and other jewelry by pouring a bit of beer (not dark ale!) onto a soft cloth and rubbing it gently over the piece. Use a clean second cloth or towel to dry.

(f) Toothpaste

Put a little toothpaste on an old toothbrush and use it to make your diamond ring sparkle instead of your teeth. Clean off the residue with a damp cloth.

---------------------------------

22. WHEN NOT TO WEAR JEWELRY?

Silver can react with chemicals (like any other metal). It is best to take off your silver jewelry when you're going swimming, bathing, washing, cooking etc.
